A CANADIAN HOME FOR SEX THERAPY EDUCATION
Build the Confidence to Talk About Sex in the Therapy Room
“Reframed how I approach sexual issues in therapy” - Alex Mayr Landrecht
Sex and sexuality come up in therapy sessions every day, but most Canadian clinicians were never taught how to navigate them. In our programs, you build the skills to explore intimate topics – without wrestling with foreign exchange rates or licensing systems
For Canadian counsellors, psychotherapists and allied health professionals, learning to support your clients around sex and sexuality hasn’t always been straightforward.
Most clinicians graduate from programs that barely touch on the subject.
So you sign up for workshops, attend seminars, take short courses. Perhaps – frustrated with Canada’s fragmented offerings – you enrol in a US certification program.
This US-based training may be thoughtful and thorough.
But the exchange rate stings and the time zones can be awkward.
The content feels shaped by a different clinical culture – that doesn’t always sit easily with the more relational, human-centred way many Canadian therapists work.
And, when you finish, you discover your qualification doesn’t map neatly onto local regulatory systems.
You find yourself wishing there were a comprehensive Canadian option – where you can become a sexuality-competent therapist without piecing courses together or adapting training designed for somewhere else.
Northern Lights was created to bridge that gap.
Northern Lights: Distinctly Canadian Sex Therapy Education
We built the country’s first and only professional development organisation focusing exclusively on sex therapy with a simple intention.
To create a Canadian home for clinicians wanting to hold conversations about sexuality as naturally as talking about grief or trauma.

Pathways to Becoming a Sexuality-Competent Therapist
Whether you’re just beginning to integrate sexuality more intentionally into your work or seeking to refine an established practice, Northern Lights offers pathways to support your growth.
All our courses are held virtually – through both self-paced learning and live, interactive sessions.
The Sexuality-Competent Therapist: Foundations
Our flagship 40-hour program offers Canadian clinicians a comprehensive, applied foundation in sex therapy.
Combining self-paced modules with live Integration Days, TSCT Foundations gives you the knowledge, the self-awareness and the frameworks to handle whatever sexual issues may arise in your therapy sessions.
The goal is to strengthen your real-world clinical skill – not to simply add another credential.
Self-Paced Programs
Short, focused trainings that take you deep into specific areas of sexuality and clinical practice, without needing to commit to live sessions that don’t fit your schedule.
Supervision
Individual or group supervision for new or seasoned clinicians developing their sex therapy practice or pursuing AASECT certification.
This ongoing mentorship allows you to integrate learning, sharpen clinical skills and identify blind spots so you can grow as a therapist and show up fully for your clients.
Live Trainings
Interactive workshops and advanced topic sessions led by instructors with specialised expertise.
Offered both virtually and in person, our live trainings range from three-hour intensives to multi-day explorations of specific areas of sex therapy.
A Community of Canadian Clinicians
Over the past five years, Northern Lights has trained and supervised nearly 500 counsellors, psychotherapists and allied health professionals across Canada.
Many come looking for deeper sex therapy skills.
They stay for the community – valuing their new network of friends and colleagues, and returning for supervision and additional training.
At the centre of Northern Lights is Diana Sadat, a clinician and educator known for bringing professional integrity and an engaging, curious personality to her work – spreading sex positivity and creating spaces for nuanced, respectful conversations about sexuality.
